Pomona Swap Meet

After checking out the Long Beach motorcycle swap Sunday morning we ran out to Pomona to see what was out there. Here's some of what we saw out in the car area. 

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Fat Bob Project

We got the chance to make some changes to a new Harley-Davidson FXDF. I really like most  of the Dyna models but the Fat Bob is my least favorite. I hope we can do a little something to help them out. Stick around, it's happening now!

The RX7 Project

About a year or so ago my brother called me and said, hey, I just bought an RX7.  My first questions to him was, why? Him being a big car type of guy I could not believe a Mazda was on his hot rod radar. As it turns out, he said he always liked the first gen RX7 and wanted to turbo-charge it. Well here the near finished project. As you can see, from the outside, it still looks pretty much stock, part of of his plan of course. But that's about the only thing stock about it. The first tell-tale sign that there's something going on is the sound you hear when it rolls up, kind of like a two stroke motorcycle or something. He's having a few issues with it running a little hot, water and oil but he said he knows how to cure it. He also set up the suspension with Bilstein shocks, stiffer springs, different sway bars and 411 ping and pinion.  Anyway, he said as it sits it made 325hp on a chassis dyno. That may not sound all that great but, I drove it and,  in the 2300 pound car it feels very strong. He said he tested it in a drag race against his friends 2011 SRT Hemi Chalanger. He claims it wasn't much of a contest as he walked away from it, with ease. Check it out, he did most of it himself, in his garage. Mazda 13b, Garrett turbo charger, Barry Grant carb, MSD ignition.

Dan Boyds Paughco/Top Shelf Customs FXR Project

We've been working with the guys at Paughco for quite a while now, so when we found out about their new FXR style frame, we knew we had to get one. This one is set up to take a 180mm rear tire but they also offer it in stock dimension as well. This thing should be a lot of fun. Dan went with a Doran Benson built 120" Ultima motor and a 6speed trans. The wheels are Roland Sands Designs chrome Diesels, 18x5.5 rear and 19x2.15 up front. Tires are Metzler ME880s. The forks and trees are from an XR1200R. And somehow, Dan was able to locate a Sputhe Engineering aluminum swing arm.Stay tuned...                 

Barn Find...2055

This thing was in for a ring gear and starter a few weeks ago. It's a Confederate Fighter 120. Imagine perusing the Long Beach swap meet, trying to get one of these things back to it's period correctness. You never know, 2055 will be here before you know it!

VW Drags Fontana, Ca.

Went out to Fontana with James this weekend for the VW drag meet. He's trying to get a feel for how fast the class in running these days. Back in '91 his car went 10.40 at about 120mph. That same class this weekend was just a couple tenths quicker so he was feeling optimistic. Lots of thrashing goin on for sure, these things are temperamental, to say the least.
