This is just one of the great configuration of this motorcycle. I first saw it on the cover of
Iron Works magazine back in 2002, I think. At that time, it had a candy red Sportster tank, tall apes and a chrome rear fender with dirt track tires, it was real. It was also "the bike" that made me want to own a Harley Davidson. As it sits now, it's one of the very few custom bikes I would like to own.
After riding a CRF250f and CRF450f for past few years I never thought I would go back to a smoker, especially not a one-two-five. But, there's something about riding one of these things. It's not as powerful as a 250f but the instant throttle response and super light weight make it really fun. At 189lbs and 33hp with a six speed gear box, it's a busy ride for sure but you're grining he whole time. I'm pretty sure doing this to the bike was a lot more fun than undoing it will be.
My buddy, Dale Takushi called us a few weeks ago and asked if we could do a wire and fire on this shovle he had been working on, so I told him, bring it in. Well, he shows up and has this all stainless ultra cool exhaust system that he made on it. Check out the three bolt flanges at the head. Not bad for a guy who is building his first bike, or anyone else for that matter. Nice work, Dale.
The last gig these guys threw was the best show I've been to in quite a while, and trust me, I've been to a lot. This year, they're giving away Panhead, yeah, a Panhead. Ya gota go to this one.
